Athens College High School Student Magazine "The Athenian" Meets Maria Kaliabou (Yale University) and Thanos Davelis (HALC)

As part of the activities for the preparation of the publication of Athens College High School Student Community's magazine "The Athenian", the Editorial Team of the magazine attended two very interesting lectures held at the SAKA Club.

On Tuesday, December 12, Ms. Maria Kaliabou, Senior Lector in the Hellenic Studies program at Yale University, spoke to the Editorial Team about the course of classical and modern Greek studies both in America and in Europe, analyzed the interest of her American students and our expatriate student community students learning the Greek language and explained the relationship of Classical Greek Literature and Folklore with other sciences, such as Medicine, Theater, and Law. This was followed by a fruitful discussion and then a short tour of the Benakeion Hall, the Library and our School Theater, during which Ms. Kaliabou gave students important advice on their academic training.

On Wednesday, December 13, Mr. Thanos Davelis, Director of Public Affairs at the Hellenic-American Leadership Council (HALC), spoke to the Editorial Team about the numerous Greek Communities in America, analyzing in detail the important role of the Hellenic-American community in promoting Greece and Greek positions in the US, while at the same time, he spoke about the fundamental goals of the Hellenic-American Leadership Council and the highly successful creation and wide appeal of the Greek Current Podcast. Mr. Davelis concluded his speech by referring to the close relations between Greece and the United States both on a political and diplomatic level and on a cultural level. The presentation was also attended by Grade 12 students of sections Γ6 and Γ7.
