The Ambassador of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr. George Tsunis, welcomes Athens College High School Students at the Ambassador's Residence

Athens College High School Editorial Committee of the Student Magazine ‘’Athenian’, editor-in-chief Aris Panagiotis Tsomokos (Grade12) and editorial staff, Marilena Lykiardopoulou (Grade 12) and Christos Mourtzinos (Grade 11), accompanied by their supervising teacher, Mr. Nikos Kalogeras, visited the United States of America Jefferson House Ambassador’s Residence located on Panagi Kyriakou Street, in the center of Athens.

Picturesque Jefferson House is the official residence of every Ambassador of the United States of America to Greece. Students were welcomed by the Press Officer of the U.S. Embassy, Mr. Alexandros Nafpliotis ('98), who played an instrumental role in making this visit possible.

Students were then welcomed by His Excellency the Ambassador of the United States of America to Greece, Mr. George Tsunis, who is of Greek origin. After a brief tour of the House, the Ambassador gave an interview to the members of the Editorial Committee, which will be published in the Athens College High School Student Magazine "Athenian 2023".

The Ambassador highlighted his love for Greece, as well as the long-standing contribution of the Greek people in politics and culture, for which, as he pointed out, the World Community owes a debt of gratitude. The Ambassador went on to impress students with his deep knowledge of the Greek Language, Greek and World history and of Greek culture.

He recalled his childhood years, when he spent his summers in Greece and particularly in the region of his origin, Platanos in Aitoloakarnania. He also emphasized on the importance of his Greek education, which shaped his personality and determined his path.

The Ambassador stressed the strong ties between Greece and the United States and stated that cooperation between the two countries will contribute to political stability and economic and cultural development. He expressed his conviction that education is a prerequisite for creation and progress, and spoke of the importance and necessity of education for the strengthening of World Peace. Finally, he advised students to pursue their goals with empathy and a sense of responsibility in today's challenging global circumstances, always looking back to their roots, acknowledging their debt to Greece and to Mankind.
