Athens College students receive awards at the 9th Public Speaking Conference in French “Conseil des Jeunes Citoyens 2022”

On Saturday, March 12, 2022, 9:00-17:00, four Athens College High School Grade 11 students participated in the 9th Public Speaking Conference in French “Conseil des Jeunes Citoyens” which was organized by De La Salle College in Thessaloniki. The students who participated in the Argumentation-Response (Debate and Persuasive Speech - Level B2) were:

1.    Andreas Kolovos

2.    Chrysoula Lalou

3.    Smaragda-Anna Oikonomidi 

4.    Aris-Panagiotis Tsomokos 

 

Smaragda-Anna Oikonomidi won the 1st place in the Persuasive Speaking Finals, in the Culture Category, and received the “Jeune Citoyen” award. Her speech was on the topic: “In a world filled with conflict, could cross-cultural exchanges make a decisive contribution to the establishment of peace?” (arguing FOR).

Aris-Panagiotis Tsomokos won the 2nd place in the in the Persuasive Speaking Finals, in the Solidarity/Solidarité Category, and received the “Jeune Orateur” award. His topic was: “Has the pandemic made us stand more in solidarity or in isolation from one another?” (arguing AGAINST).

The students were accompanied in Thessaloniki by Ms. Maria Christidou, Coordinator of the French Department of the Junior High Schools, High School and IB DP, as the lead of the delegation, and Ms. Anna-Louiza Vallindra, French teacher, who was in charge of the students' preparation for the Competition.
