Aug 25, 2021

Stella Stenou, an IB1 student, was on the 5-member national team that represented Greece at the World Schools Debating Championship 2021. The event took place from July 25 to August 5 online and was organized this year by Macau English Debate Association with the support of Debating Society Germany e.V. and Qatar Debate.

Stella was chosen as a member of the team through an extensively competitive process involving students from around Greece renowned for their debate skills. She then underwent an intensive training program and participated in international tournaments that were held both during the school year and with increased frequency during the summer months.

Seventy-four (74) nations took place in this year’s competition, making it the biggest WSDC in its 30-year history.  The Greek team competed in debates against teams from around the world, such as Holland’s, Chile’s, Israel’s, Denmark’s and Qatar’s, scoring significant victories along the way.

This year’s team was coached for the World Championship by the College’s Debate & Forensics Head Coach, Kallina Basli, along with Pierce College’s Debate Coach, Themis Markidis. Thodoris Dounias, a College alumnus and Forensics Coach at our School, was on the competition’s 10-member global Chief Adjudicators’ Panel and also served as one of the judges of the competition’s Grand Final.
