Mr. S. Trachanas speaks to High School students from Athens College and Psychico College
“Quantum Mechanics in High School: A Challenge Worth Winning”
On Friday, October 16, 2026, during 7th and 8th periods, High School Grade 3 students from the Natural Science Departments at Athens College and Psychico College attended a lecture at the Choremi Theater by distinguished physicist, university professor at FORTH and the University of Crete, and author Mr. Stefanos Trachanas. Among his many distinctions, he has received the Greek Award for Excellence in University Teaching.
In his lecture, titled “Quantum Mechanics in High School: A Challenge Worth Winning,” Mr. Trachanas drew on his book "High School Quantum Mechanics: For the Joy of Discovery" to explore how modern physics can be brought into the classroom. He addressed fundamental concepts such as wave-particle duality, as well as some of the unanswered questions in modern physics, showing students that school physics is about much more than formulas and equations; it also offers opportunities for meaningful reflection.
The lecture was an engaging and thought-provoking experience for the students, demonstrating that introducing quantum mechanics at the high school level is indeed a challenge worth taking on!
