Athens College Elementary School participates in Posidonia 2026

Jun 8, 2026

On Thursday, June 2, 2026, our School had the honor of participating in the international shipping exhibition Posidonia 2026, highlighting the value of experiential learning and the connection between education and the Greek maritime tradition.

During the “Adopt a Ship” program event, Elementary School Grade 6 student Amalia Messari served as a representative of our students. With remarkable maturity and enthusiasm, Amalia had the opportunity to speak directly with Captain Geomilos. Through her insightful questions, she highlighted her classmates’ interest in life at sea and the critical role of shipping, creating a memorable moment during the event.

Athens College Elementary School has been a steadfast partner of “Adopt a Ship” since the program’s first year in Greece in 2019. Through this initiative, the Geography curriculum comes to life and becomes more hands-on. The children do not simply learn about ports, oceans, and coordinates through maps; they actually track routes and connect theory with the real world. This long-standing partnership reflects our commitment to offering opportunities that take students beyond their textbooks, fostering inquiry, critical thinking, and a love for our maritime heritage.
