Athens College Elementary School – Grade 3 Open Day: A journey through Prehistory

Jun 8, 2026

The Elementary School Grade 3 Open Day, a special celebration of learning, creativity, and historical exploration, was held with great success and enthusiasm on Thursday, June 4, 2026. This year, our students transformed into researchers of the past and took us on a journey through fascinating eras, under the theme: “Traveling Through Prehistory.”

The event was the culmination of the students’ systematic work within the framework of the PYP transdisciplinary theme, “Where We Are in Place and Time.” Through this lens, the students explored humanity's place in history and discovered the roots of our civilization.

The journey through time began right at the entrance to the venue. There, parents had the opportunity to admire prehistoric dwellings up close—impressive group projects the children built in class with imagination, enthusiasm, and teamwork.

The presentation then unfolded across three different stations, with the Grade 3 classes taking on distinct roles:

Minoan Civilization: Classes 3E and 3C delved into the brilliant Minoan civilization of Crete, bringing the era's art, trade, and daily life vividly to the present.

Mycenaean Civilization: Classes 3A and 3B highlighted the history and social structure of the Mycenaeans, with a focus on their major achievements.

Bringing Mythology to Life: Students in Sections 3D and 3F portrayed the gods and goddesses of Olympus, presenting their myths, traits, and symbols with theatrical flair and enthusiasm.

Open Day gave us the opportunity to celebrate how children actively build knowledge, develop collaboration skills, and connect the distant past with the current reality.
