Athens College Elementary School Grade 2 Open Day

Centered on the theme “Caring for the Environment… and for Each Other,” the Grade 2 Open Day provided a meaningful opportunity for students to share their learning with their parents. Through hands-on activities in the school woods, they demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and values developed throughout the year, emphasizing a lifestyle rooted in care, cooperation, and responsibility.

Class 2a

As part of the PYP theme “How We Share the Planet,” which focuses on the harmonious coexistence of humans and animals, the students of Class 2a invited their parents to make a personal commitment by adopting a new daily habit that helps protect the natural world.

Class 2b

Drawing inspiration from the “Let’s Go Together” program, Class 2b presented a theatrical performance highlighting attitudes that foster respect, cooperation, and responsibility in everyday life.

Class 2c

Class 2c explored the role of pollinators, such as bees, and their importance to ecosystems. In this context, they organized a workshop on building manual pollinators that incorporated elements of STEM methodology.

Class 2d

Through role-playing activities, Class 2d explored the greenhouse effect, highlighting its consequences and proposing ways of thinking and acting that help maintain the planet’s balance.

Class 2e

Building on their research into forest ecosystems, the students of Class 2e highlighted the importance of protecting them and the role each person can play as an active citizen.

Class 2f

Class 2f created a large floor game inspired by their participation in the European Week for Waste Reduction, encouraging a hands-on understanding of waste reduction and responsible waste management.

The day’s activities highlighted the power of learning when connected to action and collaboration, strengthening the relationship between school and family and fostering environmental awareness in meaningful and lasting ways.
