This year, Grade 5 students in Ms. Efthymiou’s English class participated in an interdisciplinary program exploring the hidden “underwater forests” of Posidonia oceanica and coral reef ecosystems. Working in small groups, students investigated the importance of these ecosystems, the threats they face, how “blue carbon” helps combat climate change, and what individuals can do to protect the marine environment. They then wrote their own podcast scripts in English and recorded short episodes to inform their classmates. The program concluded with a presentation in the Theater, where Grade 5 students listened to the podcasts together and reflected on how young people can become “guardians of the oceans” in their daily lives.
