Psychico College Junior High School - 11th UNESCO (ASPnet) Symposium of Attica Junior High Schools

Mar 28, 2026
It was with great pleasure that Psychico College Junior High School participated in the 11th Symposium of Attica Junior High Schools that are members of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet). The theme of the symposium was “Marine Geohazards and their Impact on the Natural and Social Environment,” and it took place at the Varvakeio Model Junior High School and the Junior High School of the N. Zagorianakos Schools on March 27 and 28, 2026.

The symposium was attended by students from schools in Attica, who, divided into working groups, engaged in dialogue on important issues concerning the marine environment and its connection with humans. Particular emphasis was placed on the theme “Us and the Sea,” in which the interaction between humans and the marine environment was examined, as well as the impacts of changes in the marine environment on human life and activity. At the same time, the importance of understanding the basic principles and fundamental concepts of the marine environment was highlighted, enabling citizens to engage meaningfully with relevant issues and make informed, responsible decisions about the management and protection of marine resources.

Discussions also focused on marine geodynamic phenomena, including tsunamis, submarine landslides, volcanic eruptions in marine environments, earthquakes that disturb the seabed, and sea-level rise. The students analyzed the impacts of these phenomena on both the natural and social environments, and explored ways to prevent, manage, and address the associated risks.

Throughout the Symposium, there was a fruitful exchange of views and ideas in an atmosphere of creative collaboration and scientific interest. Participants engaged in critical thinking, submitted proposals, and strengthened their environmental awareness, gaining valuable knowledge and experiences. The Symposium was a significant experience of learning, collaboration, and awareness-raising for all participants.

The following students from the UNESCO club participated in the Symposium: Dimitris Arampatzis, Panagiotis Chatzieleftheriadis, Christina Eyrygeni, Apostolos Georgiadis, Andriana Georgiou, Athina Gkouma, Stathianna Karra, Thodoris Karras, Elya Kynigaki, and Eleftheria Vergou.
