May 21, 2026

From 1967 to the present, April 2 has been observed as International Children’s Book Day, honoring the birth of the great Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, the creator who gave world literature timeless works beloved by young and old alike.

To mark this important day, our Library organized a series of presentations and creative activities throughout April for students in all grades. Through the participation of authors, illustrators, and other literary professionals, the children had the opportunity to engage with different literary genres, become aware of important issues, and express themselves creatively, while fostering a love of reading.

Grade 1 students participated in activities that fostered their imagination and creativity. Through the presentation of the book “Young Frank Architect” by Anna Maria Vlassi and the dramatization of "The Richest Cow in the World" by the Anemomylos theater group and Christos Christopoulos, they learned basic architectural concepts and experienced happiness firsthand.

Grade 2 students were introduced to important values through presentations of books such as “Fantazou” by Katrina Tsantali, “Ramu and Belou the Whale” by Eleni Priovolou, and “I Hate and Love Books” by Koula Panagou and Marianna Psihalou. The activities focused on friendship, cooperation, diversity, animal rights, and a love of reading.

Through the book “Little Papigo” by Thodoris Georgakopoulos, Grade 3 students explored life in different environments and places, and were encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings, highlighting the importance of freedom of expression.

Grade 5 students participated in the presentation “I Have a Voice” by Xara Marantidou, delving into the value of expression, speech, and the articulation of emotions through creative activities.

Grade 6 students attended a presentation of the graphic novel “Mangas” by Konstantinos Sklavenitis and the book “I Have a Voice” by Xara Marantidou. Through these activities, the children explored historical events, such as the Greek War of Independence of 1821 and the Macedonian Struggle, while also developing their critical thinking skills regarding issues of freedom and expression.
