Athens College signs agreement with the Hellenic Cancer Society and Smoke Free Greece

On Friday, March 20, 2026, Athens College signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hellenic Cancer Society and the Smoke Free Greece initiative, under the main slogan: “Protecting young people from nicotine dependence.” The collaboration aims to develop action programs to reduce smoking in Greece. Athens College, as an educational institution, will play a decisive role in this effort.

As part of the collaboration, an informational video for the students was created. College teachers and administration members are also collectively drafting a guide titled “Education for a Smoke-Free World,” which will be published on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2026.

The agreement was signed by Evangelos Filopoulos, President of the Hellenic Cancer Society; Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, President of Athens College; and Professor Panagiotis Behrakis, Head of Smoke Free Greece. The signing took place in the presence of Antonis Makris, Head of the College's Medical Service, and Gerasimos Alivizatos, Chair of the College’s Health and Wellness Committee and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation.
