Lecture by Antonia Trichopoulou on the Mediterranean Diet

The lecture by Professor Antonia Trichopoulou, titled “The Mediterranean Diet: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow,” was held with great success on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Professor Trichopoulou discussed not only the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet but also its environmental and cultural impact. She highlighted the long-standing, persistent, and meticulous efforts of scientists to protect the Mediterranean Diet from the pressures of “globalized” dietary standards. The lecture took place as part of the series “Open Meetings: Presenting My Work,” organized by the Lifelong Learning Programs of Athens College.

A Few Words About Antonia Trichopoulou

Professor Antonia Trichopoulou is a physician and an Ordinary member of the Academy of Athens. She serves as the Supervisor of the Center for Public Health Research and Education at the Academy of Athens and is Professor Emerita at both Yale University (U.S.) and the Medical School of the University of Athens. Her career includes contributions to major organizations in Greece and internationally, such as the World Health Organization, the European Union, UNESCO, and the United Nations. Her academic work focuses on public health and nutritional epidemiology, with particular emphasis on the relationship between the Mediterranean Diet and health. She was included on the Thomson Reuters list in 2014 and on the Clarivate Analytics lists in 2018 and 2021, which recognize the most-cited researchers worldwide.
