Athens College High School - 1st Prize in the C1 category at the Greek National Francophonie Competition
The French Department of our School participated this year, through the High School Grade 1 French classes from Athens College, in the annual Greek National Francophonie Competition, organized by the French Institute of Greece in collaboration with the French Embassy, to promote the French language and culture.
This year’s competition theme was “A Journey to the Mediterranean”. Its objective was to offer students the opportunity to explore, through the lens of Francophonie, the various countries of the region, their traditions, culture, landscapes, and populations, as well as the elements that both distinguish and unite them. A total of 6,516 students and 357 classes from across Greece took part in this year's event. The teachers who participated with their High School Grade 1 classes from Athens College were Ms. A.-L. Vallindra, Ms. C. Rouga, Ms. C. Tsarouchi, and Ms. M. Christidou.
Class AF04, under the guidance of Ms. Vallindra, won first place in Category C1 by creating a podcast titled “Sur les traces des Grecs anciens—In the Footsteps of the Ancient Greeks.”
The students of AF04, accompanied by the Interschool Head of the French Department, Mr. D. Anagnostopoulos, and their teacher, Ms. A.-L.Vallindra, visited the French Institute on Friday, March 20, to attend the awards ceremony, which was held in the presence of ambassadors and embassy representatives from French-speaking countries. The students received their award from the Swiss Embassy's representative. They then met with the Director of Examinations at the French Institute and President of AMOPA-HELLAS (Association des Membres de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques), Mr. Nicolas Christodoulou. He spoke to them about the opportunities offered by the French language, French diplomas, and studying in France. Afterwards, the students visited the Institute’s French library and bistro.
Warm congratulations to all students of Athens College High School who participated in the competition with creativity and enthusiasm, and to Class AF04 for this exceptional distinction!
