Psychico College Elementary School - German Department presentation to Grade 2 - Martinstag and Lantern Parade

Nov 26, 2025

As part of the cultural program for Grade 2 at our School, our young students had the opportunity to explore German culture through the celebration of Martinstag, observed at this time of year in German-speaking countries. Through this experience, they also became more familiar with the values of solidarity and helping others.

The German Department organized a special presentation for the day, and we were delighted to welcome Ms. Ira Valiano, representative of the ÖSD Institute in Greece, to our School. She spoke to the children about the life and work of the Roman soldier Martinus. Her narration was brought to life when Grade 6 students of the German Department reenacted key moments from Martin's life in German on our theater stage, highlighting his selfless service to those in need.

The event continued with a presentation of the traditions associated with this day in German-speaking countries. Then the lights dimmed, and students from Grades 3 and 6 began the traditional Laternenumzug (lantern parade), singing traditional songs and filling the theater with the light of hope and kindness shining from their lanterns.

After following every moment with great interest, the Grade 2 students enthusiastically participated in the quiz that followed, showing how much they had gained from this wonderful experience.

The values of solidarity, kindness, and selfless service to others were highlighted in a meaningful and lively way and will continue to serve as a guiding light for our children, young and old.
