Apr 4, 2025

As part of Athens College's Centennial celebrations, the inauguration of "The Arts Exhibition 2025" took place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in the historic setting of the Zappeion. The exhibition showcased works by final-year students and alumni of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP).

Held in the Central Atrium of the Zappeion, the evening drew a large crowd of parents, students, teachers, alumni, Directors and members of the Administration, as well as friends of the School, who were taken on a journey of artistic creation and expression through Music, Theater, Visual Arts, and Film, by IB DP Arts students.

Athens College President, Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, and College Director of IB Programs and IB DP Head of School, Eleni Vasileiou, addressed the audience with brief speeches.

Mr. Pollalis stated that the arts have always been a cornerstone of the education offered at the College, noting that this great artistic tradition continues to this day - 100 years after the School's foundation - with the contribution of both dedicated teachers and promising students.

Ms. Vasileiou congratulated everyone who contributed to the exhibition and emphasized that this celebratory event "honors the students' unique vision and artistic expression, their courage to explore, expose, and create freely". As she said,  through the Arts, students discover themselves.

The evening also featured a musical performance by the Athens College Ensemble comprising of students and teachers of the School, accompanied by vocals from IB DP final-year student Georgios-Alexandros-Michail Andrews-Margaritis and IB DP alumna Nikoleta Adam '18.

This was followed by the theatrical performance "Theatre Through Time: A Journey from Ancient Greece to the 21st Century", performed by current IB DP students and alumni.

Guests then had the opportunity to explore the exhibition itself. The final-year students' works were displayed in two halls of the Zappeion, while digitalized artworks and short films by alumni were featured in two separate black box spaces.

The evening was hosted by actress Nadia Kontogeorgi '01, who underscored the School's cultural legacy and the importance of inspired educators in the arts courses.

The IB DP exhibition is an annual event, showcasing the works created by the students during the two-year Program, and also serving as their final assessment. This year's collaboration with alumni demonstrated that the College's long-lasting artistic tradition continues in the beginning of its second century of life.
