“The Society of Knowledge" Scientific Conference by Athens College & the the University of Athens

On Friday, March 29, 2024, Athens College organized the Scientific Conference "The Society of Knowledge" - A meeting of College graduates studying at Greek universities. The Conference of high-caliber was held in collaboration with the Rectorate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the College of Emeritus Professors of the University of Athens and contributed to the scientific dialogue on the development of education and the society of knowledge in our country.

Opening remarks were delivered by: Professor Spiros N. Pollalis, Athens College President, Professor Dionysios F. Kokkinos ’57, President of the Organizing and Scientific Committee of the Conference and member of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Stella Priovolou, President of the College of Emeritus Professors of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Professor George Christodoulou '54, President of the European Society of Emeritus Professors.

With great enthusiasm, the 22 speakers developed a topic of their interest related to their studies in four different sections: Health Sciences, Physical Sciences, Humanities and Engineering.

The speakers were: Aristomenis Alevizopoulos '19, Epaminondas Douros '19, Katerina Karaindrou '21, Ioanna Katsikopoulou '22, Eleni Kostoula '19, Vasiliki Bakola '21, Filippos Gylekis '18, Nikolaos Diamantis '17, Ariadne Moukani '21, Martha Xypnitou '21, Dimitris Foteinakis '21, Ignatios Heger '21, Argyro Psaroulaki '21, Odysseas Liagas '19, Iosif Chadjimichalis '21, Eleni-Karoki Mavrikou '21, Alexandra-Maria Zoupanou '20, Antonios Kapiris '20, Christos Asvestis '19, Zafiris-Nektarios Zafeiropoulos '20, Natassa Andritsaki, Georgios Anastasiou '19.

By participating in the Conference, the graduates came in contact with the scientific community, had the opportunity to interact with distinguished scientists and university teachers and to practice the preparation of work that requires research, critical analysis, and synthesis as well as presentation with scientific expression, documentation, completeness, accuracy, and clarity. The Conference also strengthened their links with the School and with each other.

The presentations were followed by a discussion on the current issue "Reflections on Education", in which the following participated: Odysseas-Ioannis Zoras, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Nikiforos Diamantouros '61, Professor Emeritus of Political Science of the University of Athens, Honorary Member of the Academy of Athens, Nestor Kourakis '66, Professor Emeritus of Criminal Sciences of the Law School of the University of Athens, Spiros N. Pollalis, President of Athens College, Professor Emeritus of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Stella Priovolou, Professor Emeritus of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and President of the College of Emeritus Professors of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens,

The discussion was moderated by Dionysios F. Kokkinos '57, Professor Emeritus of Cardiology, School of Medicine, Athens University of Medical Sciences. Commentaries were added by: Andreas Karampelas, Head of the Department of Informatics of Athens College, Aristides Pittas '78, President of the Alumni Association of Athens College - Psychico College and Dr. Polyanthi Tsigkou, Advisor to the President of Athens College.
