"Philhellenism: from the School’s archives”

Dear Parents,

As part of the celebration of the 200-year anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the Department of History and Social Studies, together with the Athens College Library, are calling on 9th grade students to participate in the creation of a presentation on Philhellenism.

Students who will form the working group will study items related to Philhellenism that are stored in libraries / digital archives (excerpts from books, objects, portraits, letters).

The product of the students’ research will be captured in a presentation/video that will be screened to all 9th grade students.  The presentation will remain in the archives of the History Department as well as the Library so that it can be used in the future as a digital lesson on Philhellenism (“a lesson from students for students”).

The group’s work will begin in early March and will be completed by mid-April 2021.  The collaboration will take place primarily online on MSTeams.

The objectives of this project are:

· to commemorate the anniversary of ’21 with original and creative student work
· to highlight the role of Philhellenism, a remarkable expression of people’s solidarity with the Greek Revolution
· to make students aware that historical research, even on a small scale, is not possible without the use of libraries and archives.

Parents of students who are interested in participating in the group on Philhellenism are kindly requested to compete the attached form (in Greek) and sent it to Ms. Aphrodite Agallou (Lila House Secretariat, tel: 210.6798.141, email: [email protected]) by Friday, February 26, 2021.

Sincerely,

Vasiliki Tla
Athens College
Junior High School Director
