A little about Mary Katrantzou ΄00

She graduated from Athens College in 2000.  In 2003 she began her studies in Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, USA, but later transferred to Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, where she completed her BA in Textile Design and MA in Fashion. At her Saint Martins graduation show in 2008, she took the industry by storm with her trademark trompe l’oeil prints. That same year, she showed her collection at London Fashion Week.

Her prints, inspired by geometric shapes, bottles, jewelry and Greek mythology, established her as “The Queen of Prints” and changed the image of 21st century fashion.  Notable individuals who have worn her designs include Michelle Obama, Naomi Campbell, Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett και Beyoncé.

Mary Katrantzou has received significant international accolades, among them the Swiss Textiles Award in 2010, the British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent in 2011, the British Fashion Award for New Establishment Designer in 2015, as well as the Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, also in 2015.

She has collaborated with international fashion houses and chains and her collections are sold in hundreds of department stores and boutiques around the world. She has also designed costumes for the New York City Ballet, the Paris Opera, as well as the National Opera of Greece and her work has been exhibited, among other places, at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum of London, and the Lord Rothschild exhibition.

In October 2019, her collection was shown in a unique setting, against the backdrop of the ancient Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion, in a fashion event that supported the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer “Elpida.”

In recent years, she calls London her home.

On Friday, October 23, 2020, Mary Katrantzou΄00 gave a speech at the Investiture Ceremony of the new Athens College President, Professor Costas Synolakis ΄75.  In an emotionally charged speech, she spoke about the lessons she learned at the College, which helped her to get to where she is today.
