Thank you for your support!
The student group "It's happening" of the Athens College Elementary School is raising money for the creation of a borehole in the village of Ekoso in the Kwahu region of mountainous Ghana. The village has 2000 inhabitants and a school. However, the only existing borehole has been destroyed, leaving the villagers without access to clean water.
In addition to the amount of money they will raise, the students are working closely with the volunteer Stefani Grigoriou from Cyprus, who will oversee the project in Ghana and will connect live with the students to enable them to follow the developments and co-organize actions with the local school.

The Mission and Vision of the team
The group's mission is to find resources that will ensure African villages access to clean water and better living conditions. The group "It's happening" takes its name from the name of the village Ekoso in Ghana, which means "It's happening in the Twi language (the main dialect of the people there) ". The group was inspired by their research on "Health and Well-being" project and wanted to do something substantial to change the daily life of 2000 people who carry water to their homes from faraway places and put their lives at risk, as the water they have is usually contaminated.
The group's vision is to organise an action in African countries every year so that we develop our environmental awareness skills as a school community by actively implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This year's goal is the 6th one in a row entitled "Clean Water and Sanitation" and will help us reduce our ecological footprint and increase our human footprint, that of solidarity and contribution to all citizens of the world.
The amount of money required to complete the project is approximately €4,500-5,000 and it will change the standard of living of the people in the area. The project will start in April 2023 and is expected to be completed by mid-May 2023. In the frame of the specific student project, donor contribution is acknowledged upon donor consent under the following targeted recognition categories:
- Spring Water Contributors <€24
- Pond Contributors €25-49
- Lake Contributors €50-99
- Stream Contributors €100-249
- River Contributors >€250
Through this effort, our students are also participating at our School's Annual Fund. After the needs of the project are met, the fundraising surplus will be donated in support of the Athens College Scholarship Program for Financial Aid to classmates and their families, as needed.
