The objective of the Bilingual Extended Program is for students to discover their interests. Through a variety of art, sport and technology activities, students gain knowledge and skills while enhancing their aptitude in the English and Greek languages. At the same time, they develop collaborative and communicative capabilities as they are given an opportunity to meet and interact with students from other sections who have similar interests.

The Extended Program takes place daily from 13:15 to 13:55 in the Kindergarten facilities. It is followed by lunch in the Kindergarten’s dining halls.

Subjects

The Ceramics Studio is a great opportunity to provide students with a creative outlet that cultivates their curiosity, fine motor skills and knowledge of different art materials. With a focus on ceramic pottery, students develop their sculpting skills, learning how to make original hand-built sculptures, pots, and more. Beginning with play-doh and air-dry clay, students get acquainted with basic techniques and build confidence to explore ceramics using earthen clay. The tactile experience of pinching, squeezing and shaping the clay ensures that students stay academically and creatively fulfilled throughout the course.

Science and Technology Lab is an integral part of the learning process and an important educational tool for students as well as teachers. It is essential that students are exposed to technology and technological terms within an organized context aimed at the overall development of students. A basic criterion for the integration of technology in the Kindegarten program is its appropriate and proper use. Exposure to technology is done in a variety of forms and levels depending on students’ age and experience. Technology does not replace hands-on learning experiences but reinforces and enriches them.

Ballet class allows students to express themselves through movement while developing their proprioception (awareness of the position and movement of their bodies). They cultivate a sense of rhythm and learn how to use both their personal and surrounding space. Lastly, the class prepares students for the postures, positions and series of movements associated with classical ballet, as students gain better control and coordination between their movements and music.

Healthy Cooking is an ideal way for students to learn through exploration using their senses. Cooking motivates students to learn and practice basic math concepts and, at the same time, build their English language skills. It teaches children to learn how to prepare their own healthy snacks and make their own nutritional choices. It gives them a chance to enjoy healthy food and to discuss nutritional facts. Finally, this class is a wonderful way for students to explore different cultures, customs and food from around the world!

Swimming activities for Kindergarten students take place at the “Alexandra Prokopiou” Swimming Center, “John A. Gabriel” Swimming Pool, while swimming activities for Pre-Kindergarten students take place at the “John M. Carras” Kindergarten Swimming Pool.

Classes aim to introduce students to treading water and, through play, to teach them to move safely and confidently. Students are taught the basic techniques of freestyle and backstroke swimming through games and activities tailored to preschool age.

In Modern Dance, students are taught the primary exercises of the Modern Theatre branch of ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing).  Having learned the basic techniques of various dance styles (jazz dance, musical theatre and contemporary dance), students then learn short choreographies and improvise by interpreting modern musical scores.

In Music-Kinetic Training, students become acquainted with Orff (percussion) instruments. They are exposed to songs, develop expressive abilities and discover rhythm through body percussion. Additionally, they cultivate their musical development and explore sounds through fun-filled, rhythmic and music-kinetic activities.

In group piano lessons, children are provided with small pianos to create a musical ensemble.  They learn musical notes and rhythmic values by exploring sounds via music-kinetic games.  At the same time, they take their first steps at playing musical pieces on the piano whilst accompanied by orchestrated English language songs.

Storytime promotes literacy by providing students with the opportunity to enrich their English oral skills. Students improve their vocabulary and develop their communication skills. Storytime incorporates songs, art, dance and drama. Students become active participants in the story by dramatizing the text, characters and plot while using their imagination and creativity.

In Martial Arts classes, students cultivate three basic skills:

1.      Development of discipline and concentration through specific exercises – games.

2.      Improvement of self-confidence by developing a physical and muscular tone.

3.      Training in hand techniques (blocks, strikes) and feet techniques (kicks).

The core of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten courses is the same in order to facilitate a logical continuity. What differs is the volume of exercises, their intensity and their level of difficulty.

Through the Arts, students practice their skills and are motivated to learn. They are empowered and encouraged to be innovative, to express their thoughts and feelings in a unique way, but also to observe and describe their aesthetic experience when listening to music or when looking at a painting. Additionally, they are trained in multiple literacies, which contribute to the development of creative and critical thinking skills. Classes conducted in the Art Workshop place special emphasis on students’ creative engagement with various art forms. Painting and sculpture give students an opportunity to work with various materials, such as paper, clay, fabric and metal, as well as to create three-dimensional pieces using different techniques. The objective of Art classes is to cultivate children’s creativity, sense of aesthetics, critical thinking skills and cultural development.

In Mini Sports, students are given the opportunity to learn about the principles and values that sport stands for. Their introduction to sports is carried out through sports entertainment activities and educational games. During this school year, students will have the opportunity to participate in the following sports:

1. Athletics (running, jumping and throwing)

2. Mini Basketball

The purpose of the course is to create the appropriate conditions for students to become familiar with the above sports and their techniques.
