Final Round of Three Hierarchs Oratory Competition at Psychico College

May 13, 2021

The final round of Psychico College High School’s “Three Hierarchs” Oratory Competition for sophomores (10th grade students) was held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Choremi Auditorium.  Winner of the 2020-2021 prize is Georgia Vergou.

The topic of this year’s competition was:

“I ask you to philosophize about the sufferings of the body and to behave in a fashion worthy of the God who has called us.  He, if He sees us gratefully accepting the present ills will either remove the sorrows, as in the case of Job, or will reward us with great crowns of patience…”

Basil the Great (Ep. 212,2)

“I suffer in my illness, but I am also joyful. Joyful not because I am in pain, but because I can be a teacher of patience and courage for others… Through my sufferings, I gain patience and a state of thanksgiving towards God… I thank Him for my illnesses, as well as for the pleasures in my life…”

Gregory the Theologian (Ep. XXXVI)

Through their community service, the Three Hierarchs dedicated their lives to dealing with the suffering of their fellow human beings that comes from illness and everyday difficulties.  Even they, themselves, endured their personal illnesses with forbearance.
